Eagles Basketball Off to a Strong Start on the Season

Three teams are 13-3 in the first half of the season

Eagles basketball is soaring high this season. The girls team has eight players out for the team this year. The boys came out in very strong numbers. Twenty one boys are playing basketball at Andover Elementary/Middle School. The boys and girls have played several exciting games this season.

The boys team was divided into two great teams. The main focus of the team is strong rebounding and solid defense. A combined record of the boys two teams is seven wins and two losses.

The boys started the month of December off well, hosting local rivals from Franklin for the first home game. The boys jumped out to a commanding lead and never looked back for their first win.

Next, the boys traveled to Sunapee and pulled off two more wins. Newport’s away game was a hard-fought win, as the boys pulled ahead of Newport in the third quarter and with great passing finished the night strong.

To close out the month of December, the boys, using a full-court man-to-man press, jumped out to a large lead in the first quarter and never let up as Kearsarge could not hold on, giving the boys their final win in December.

In January, the boys started out a little more slowly, dropping a tough game on the road to Ashland and racking up a second loss to Newport at home. Without “quit” in the team’s vocabulary, they have rallied to beat two teams from Sunapee.

The coaching staff is looking forward to a very exciting second half of the season for the two boys basketball season.

Girls Basketball

The girls team has had a great deal of success this year playing as a true team. They have a record of six and one. The team started the season with four veterans from last year, the other half of the team being new to Eagles basketball. They have gelled together well and have played some very good basketball.

The girls season also started with Franklin coming to town. The girls began the game full of excitement and very nervous. They settled down in the third quarter and jumped out ahead of Franklin to pull off their first win.

The Sunapee girls game was full of end-to-end action. The girls demonstrated great defensive skills and were able to finish the game with their second win of the season.

The girls kept their winning streak going against Newport, Kearsarge, Ashland, and Sunapee for a second time. They suffered their first loss at home to Newport. With a few injuries, the girls gave their all, but in the end they fell short of pulling off another win.

The girls play with a lot of heart and hustle. Coach Tucker feels the second half will be just as exciting as the first half of the season was.
