In January, our kindergarten students learned all about weather. We talked about different types of weather that we experience in New Hampshire and less common weather such as tornadoes and hurricanes.

The students learned about the atmosphere and the water cycle. They learned about the different ways that weather is predicted and the instruments used. During the month the kids recorded the daily weather in a journal.

At the end of January, we were fortunate to have a professional weatherman come visit us at AE/MS! Kevin Skarupa from Channel 9 News came to kindergarten. He talked all about local weather, cool weather facts from around the world, weather on different planets, and how he and his team predict the weather for Channel 9 News. He also read the kids a cute book titled Cloudette about a little cloud who felt small until she learned how she can do big things to help others.

The students were especially excited to learn that they would be on television. On the air, Mr. Skarupa talked about his visit to Andover and how our kids really wanted snow. They were in luck, with the approaching blizzard. Mr. Skarupa showed the audience the thank-you card we made him with our favorite types of weather on it. The children were thrilled!

We watched the clip on the news the following Monday. You can see it at AndoverBeacon.com/Skarupa.
