On Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 9:26 and 53 seconds, both AM and PM, Pi was represented to 10 digits: 3.141592653. This will be the one and only Pi Day in the next 100 years that will actually reflect the first five numbers (ten if you count the time) in everyone’s favorite irrational number, Pi.

Pi Day was celebrated at AE/MS on Monday, March 16, 2015. Students were given the challenge to memorize and then recite as many digits of Pi as they could during their lunch period. Everyone received a Pi pencil!

AE/MS had 61 participants who gave it a shot to try to recite as many digits of Pi as they could. All participants were given a “Pi-e” treat at the end of the school day. The winners received a bag of Pi goodies (Pi tattoos, pencils, and a measuring tape with the digits of Pi. The grand prize winners (Jesse and Wesley) won Pizza Pi from Pizza Chef and a Pi Day T-shirt!

There was a tie among the kindergarten through second grade contestants, with Ollie Grotnes and Ben Kelly each memorizing 18 digits of Pi.

The winner for third and fourth grade was Oliver Andrews, who recited 55 digits of Pi.

There was a tie in fifth and sixth grade, with Jesse Niemyer and Wesley Koziol each reciting 68 digits of Pi.

The winner for seventh and eighth grade was Aidan Kellogg, who recited 39 digits of Pi.

Congratulations to everyone!
