The community is invited to the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts’ First Friday program on Friday, June 5, from 5 to 7 PM for Theater Night at the New London Barn Playhouse. All Center for the Arts events are free and open to the public.

As part of the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts’ First Friday, the New London Barn Playhouse will be opening its doors for a unique insider’s look at the creative process. Sit in on a one-hour Gypsy rehearsal, followed by a question-and-answer session with select members of the cast! Light refreshments will follow on the Barn’s porch.

Gypsy, a musical by Jules Styne with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, is based on the book by Arthur Laurents. Often referred to as the greatest musical of all time, Gypsy follows the 1920s rise of a legendary burlesque performer and her infamously overbearing mother, the indomitable Mama Rose. This Tony award-winning masterpiece features standards such as Everything’s Coming Up Roses, Let Me Entertain You, and the show-stopping Rose’s Turn.

Follow upon this open rehearsal with the actual show! Gypsy will run at the Barn Playhouse from Wednesday, June 17, through Sunday, June 28. Note this on your calendar: Center for the Arts members can take advantage of a 10% discount for any performance during the month of June. Performances run Tuesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 5 PM, and a matinee on Wednesdays at 2 PM. “See you on the Porch!”

All First Friday Events are free and open to the public. On the first Friday of each month, the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts hosts a series of free arts programs for the community, including gallery openings, classical and folk music nights, literary and poetry nights, as well as theater night. Working with their business partners in the community, CFA continues to showcase local and regional talent in the Lake Sunapee area for the benefit of the artists, performers, residents, and visitors to our beautiful region. The Barn Playhouse is located at 84 Main Street in New London.
