East Andover Village Preschool, May 2015

16 preschoolers graduate to kindergarten

By Elizabeth Janvrin, EAVP

It is hard to believe that at the time of publication, we will be getting ready to come to a close at East Andover Village Preschool for our 2014-2015 school year.

We are very proud of our 16 graduates headed off to kindergarten; many of them have been with us the past two years. The group has grown so much, together and individually, that we know that they are ready for the new adventures that await them in elementary school. Our graduation ceremony is on Tuesday, June 16, at 6 PM.

Thank you to our very own teacher, Alicia Williams, and the New Hampshire Project Learning Tree Foundation. We are the very lucky recipients of one of their $250 grants. This grant will allow us to continue work on our outdoor classroom space as we make a pollinator garden to attract birds and bees while making a more natural play space for our playground. Alicia, and teacher Lawre Goodnow, will be attending an annual event for Project Learning Tree on May 17 to receive this honor.

Continuing with great news at East Andover Village Preschool, on June 1, we achieved the State of New Hampshire’s “Licensed Plus” status. This is a quality rating system which allows us to demonstrate that we achieve quality higher than the current New Hampshire licensing standards. We are excited to be granted this status with all of our hard work.

At East Andover Village Preschool, we have been on a journey into space. Our classroom loft has begun transformation into a rocket ship through research in both non-fiction books and using the Internet. We have papier-mached our own group representations of the planets and used seriation activities to put them in order from the sun.

Our bodies have been used to simulate the Earth orbiting around the sun to demonstrate a year and rotating to demonstrate a day. We have also enjoyed learning and singing the song Aiken Drum, who has various food items for facial features.

Although we are saying good-bye to many of our preschool children, we are looking forward to another preschool year with our returning group to continue in our learning adventures together. If you are looking for preschool for the 2015-2016 school year, please call the school at 735-5105 or e-mail EAVP@nulltds.net for more information about our program.
