people - deaths - 150704 griffinIrene M. Griffin, 88, a resident of the Golden Crest Community in Franklin since 2010, died on Saturday, July 4, following a period of failing health.

Irene was born in Tilton on June 29, 1927, daughter of Louis and Margaret (Jondro) Deragon. She resided in Tilton until moving to Sanbornton 36 years ago.

She was a graduate of the Tilton-Northfield High School in Tilton. Irene worked as an inspector at International Packing Company in Bristol for over 16 years. She enjoyed playing bingo over the years and was involved with the many activities at Golden Crest.

Irene always had an infectious smile when you met her, and she found joy spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Sanbornton for many years, continuing to attend Sunday services as long as she could.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Laramie, Sr.; by her second husband of 35 years, Sherwood E. Griffin, who died in 2005; a son, Robert Laramie Jr.; a brother, Eugene Deragon; a sister, Phyllis Deragon; and a son-in-law, Wally Johnson.

She leaves sons Glenn Laramie and his wife Kathy of Franklin; Ed and his wife Joan Griffin of Sanbornton; Brian and his wife JoAnn Griffin of Franklin; daughter Pat Johnson of Worcester, Massachusetts; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and her two best friends, Beverly Anderson of Sanbornton and Lucy Tibbetts of Maine.

A funeral service was held on July 8 at the First Baptist Church in Sanbornton. Burial followed in Park Cemetery in Tilton. Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Irene’s name to the First Baptist Church of Sanbornton, 17 Church Lane, PO Box 80, Sanbornton NH 03269; or to the Resident Activities Fund, Golden Crest, 29 Baldwin Street, Franklin NH 03235.
