WCA Launches Free Fall Concert Series

Will Ogmundson in September; the Schusts in October

Press release

The Wilmot Community Association (WCA) will kick off its free fall concert series with a concert of Ragtime music performed by William Ögmundson. The concert will be at 7 PM on Saturday, September 19, at the WCA’s Red Barn at 64 Village Road in Wilmot.

Well-known throughout New England, Ögmundson grew up in North Wilmot. He has built a career on piano performance. He’s also made a name for himself as a composer and lyricist.

In recent years, Ögmundson has established himself as a composer for the theater. His projects include several collaborations with Tomie dePaola, including a stage version of Strega Nona: Her Story. Along with Tom Dunn, Ögmundson adapted dePaola’s story “The Night of Las Posadas into a Christmas musical that has toured New England. Marking the Moment, which Ögmundson wrote with Trish Lindberg, won the prestigious Moss Hart Memorial Award for New England in 2013.

Wilmot flutist Nola Aldrich will join Ögmundson on stage for Tambourin by Francois Joseph Gossec. “It’s a jaunty piece that I’m sure the audience will enjoy,” Aldrich said. Aldrich performs with the Lake Sunapee Area Flute Choir, specializing on alto and bass flute. She also is concert mistress and flute section leader for the Kearsarge Community Band.

Drumming with the Schusts

The second concert in the series will feature a drumming workshop with Lyndsey and Grace Schust. The workshop is set for 7 PM on Saturday, October 17.

The WCA, which was established in 1963, owns and operates the WCA’s Red Barn, a community center, and Timothy Patten Park, a beach and playground.

The office is open from 9 AM to noon, Monday through Thursday, and by appointment.
