Town Clerk Closed on November 28, Open on November 30

Closed for the long Thanksgiving weekend

By Joanna Sumner, Town Clerk

The Town Clerk/Tax Collector’s office will be closed on November 11 for Veteran’s  Day and again November 26, 27, and 28 so that our employees may enjoy a long Thanksgiving weekend.

The State Department of Motor Vehicles is also closed over the holiday so there is no support for questions that could arise. We will be open Monday, November 30, from 9:30 to 6:30 to accommodate those of you who were planning to come in on Saturday, November 28.

Financial

At the end of the third quarter, earnings in the Town Clerk’s office were up by $13,073. from 2014. The number of transactions from year to year stays very much the same. The increase in revenue is from the registering of new or newer vehicles.

We have also had an increase in residents paying their renewals on line. Last year 116 people registered vehicles on line for a total of $21,362. This year 214 people renewed their registrations on line for a total of $37,155.

On the tax collections side of the house, more people are paying on line this year than last. There were 68 on line tax payments this year compared to 21 last year. It is difficult to compare this year with last as this is the first year we have done the semi-annual billing.

There is still $80,000. outstanding (1 ½ %) on the 2014 tax warrant. There is $140,000. (5 ½%) still outstanding on the 2015 first issue tax warrant. Gross receipts from January 1, 2015 to September 30, 2015 were $3,144,609. Last year at this time, our gross receipts were $713,589.

Elections

There will be four elections this coming year so there will be a lot of work for the Town Clerk’s office preparing and running the elections. October 30 is the last day to change your party affiliation for the Federal Primary. Please remember this when you come to vote in February.
