AE/MS Family Letter, November 18, 2015

Tomorrow is Grandparent Thanksgiving! Grandparents and older family members are invited to have dinner with us. Please send in the attached form so that we can plan accordingly.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of France following the horrific terrorist attacks. Classroom discussions took place this week in a sensitive and age-appropriate manner.

Our Veterans Day assembly was a special day. The student presentations were thoughtful and showed great appreciation for our veterans. We were pleased to have so many veterans attend. Thank you for sending in so many delicious baked good for the Eagle Cafe. It was appreciated and quickly consumed by our veterans. We are grateful to the New London Dunkin’ Donuts for the coffee donation. The veterans received two coupons from New London Subway for free sandwiches in November. That was a nice treat! And as always we enjoyed Peter Zak’s cider.

Grades close for the first trimester on November 24th. Report cards will be sent home on or before December 4th. Smarter Balanced Assessment results for grade 4 -9 are back and will be sent home with report cards. Smarter Balanced is the new state assessment program and was administered to grades 3-9 last spring.

Ski Fridays will start the first Friday in January when we return from Christmas vacation. Be sure you get the paperwork completed so that your child will be ready to ski or board. The ski paperwork is attached again for your convenience. This is a town program and questions can be answered by Jen Hauser or Sue Norris. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students!

An AEMS family recently went to Zimmermans in Nashua and rented alpine skis for their children. With the rentals came junior season passes to Ragged Mountain. This is a very good deal if your family plans to ski a lot.  zimsport.com/programs/junior-ski-snowboard-equipment-lease-program/

It’s time to talk about the 8th grade NYC trip! We will have a parent meeting for 8th grade families after the Thanksgiving break to discuss specifics. Of course there is fundraising involved and the first project is underway. The Little Caesars fundraising information has been sent home with all 8th grade students. Orders are due back on December 11th. Orders will be delivered to school on December 21st. You can order from one of our 8th graders or you can  order online at: www.pizzakit.com/fundraising-products?shop=1&cont=1&t=lc&sf=1. Our group # is 299543. There are lots of choices! Thank you.

Next week is short! Students only have two school days before the Thanksgiving break. We have school Monday and Tuesday, November 23rd and 24th and then students return to school on Monday, November 30th.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
