Bernice Nowell Continues Grange’s Dictionary Tradition

"Selling them for free" to area third graders

Press release

Hats off to Bernice Nowell of Andover who has been busy delivering dictionaries to the area school’s third graders as part of the Grange Dictionary Project. In addition to talking about the Grange and the program, Bernice also leaves several pairs of her handmade mittens. The dictionaries, a total of 105, are given to the students to keep as their own and include some encyclopedia type pages that give details on our states, planets, presidents, sign language as well as showcasing the longest word which is over 1000 letters long.

The Blazing Star Grange of Danbury continues the program in the districts formerly supported by the Blackwater Grange of Andover with Bernice continuing to manage the program.

Thank you notes from Kearsarge Elementary School were read at Blazing Star Grange’s regular meeting on November 19. There were many sweet, well thought sentiments of appreciation and gratitude. The project was summed up best by one student that wrote: “Thanks really much for buying the dictionarys and selling them free”.
