Andover Service Club Plans Bake Sale

Arts and Crafts Show in the spring

By Mary Ofenloch, ASC

On February 10, the ladies of the Andover Service Club met at the Highland Lake Grange Hall in East Andover for the monthly meeting and social gathering. Following the new format of refreshments and socializing, business reports were then read and discussion ensued. The ladies reviewed the requirements for participation in the “Welcome Spring” Arts and Crafts Show and Sale.

Membership in the ASC was also discussed. The ladies felt that the public perception regarding requirements for potential membership in ASC should be clarified. Any woman wishing to become a member need only come to a meeting at 10 AM on the second Wednesday of the month in the Highland Lake Grange Hall in East Andover, where she will be welcomed to join us. New members are asked to volunteer for one of the 18 committees in order to be of service to the people of the community, and to have fun, while making new friends and participating in club events. Sponsorship is not required.

The next meeting of ASC will be on Wednesday, March 9. The agenda will include the annual book discussion, when members speak of books they’ve read during the past year, giving their impressions, a brief description of the story, and recommendations for those who may be interested in reading a particular book. This program has always been informative and very popular.

The ladies are now gearing up for the Bake Sale to be held on Town Meeting Day on Tuesday, March 8. Bake sales are successful fundraisers, as the proceeds benefit the ASC Merit Scholarship program and community services.

Future meetings are on Wednesday, April 13 and May 11 at the Highland Lake Grange Hall and the Annual Meeting Luncheon on Wednesday, June 8.

There are no meetings in July and August, but there will be a “Slices For Scholarships” pie fundraiser on the Village Green on the Fourth of July during Andover’s annual Independence Day Celebration.

Saturday, May 7, will be a special ASC event: the “Welcome Spring” Arts and Crafts Show and Sale at the Andover Elementary/Middle School from 10 AM to 3 PM. More information will be in the April edition of the Beacon, or e-mail MaryO.ASClub@nulllive.com.

Finally, many people are unaware that the ASC has, in recent years, accepted memorial donations to the ASC Merit Scholarship Fund. Therefore, in lieu of flowers when a loved one passes, please consider a memorial donation to benefit deserving students attending college. This is a wonderful way to remember a special person who has passed.
