No prior meditation experience is necessary. Classes will meet every other Saturday and will be guided by Ilene Venizelos. For questions or to register, please call COA at 526-6368.

Morning Book Group

Tuesday, June 14 9:30am

Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

Humanist & Agnostic Discussion Group

Thursday, June 16 1:30pm

At our April meeting we never did figure out what part our various gods play in our environmental mismanagement. We discussed the book, “When God is not Green”, which cites numerous examples where religious traditions around the world have led to environmental disasters, including the destruction of palm forests in Central America so that Christians would have palm branches on Palm Sunday. We concluded, however, that blaming religions is unfair, and that it is money and avarice that is the root of our problems. By the time you read this, we would have, at our May meeting, started the discussion of spirituality. Can one be spiritual without having to believe in a supreme being? What is the source of our spiritual feelings? Was this what Ralph Waldo Emerson was trying to describe in leading his transcendentalist movement in the 1800s? Come join us.

Movie & Pizza Night

Friday, June 17 5:00pm

“Brooklyn”

Brooklyn tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and Eilis must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.
