May was a very busy month for the Andover Service Club members. The “Welcome Spring” Arts and Crafts Show and Sale on May 7 was a big undertaking. Many hands were needed to successfully present a well-managed, professional event.

Twenty-six vendors from Andover and neighboring towns, as well as eight ASC members, displayed a wide variety of one-of-a-kind gifts and art for sale to the public. If you did not attend this event, you missed the outstanding work of these artists and crafters. This event raised $876.40 to benefit the ASC Merit Scholarship Fund.

Nine donated gifts were raffled, and winning tickets were drawn at the May 11 meeting of ASC in the Highland Lake Grange Hall. The winners were:

  • Mary Anne Broshek: glass block lamp and flannel baby blanket
  • Gisela Darling: crochet afghan
  • Charlie Darling: cookbook and floral pillowcase
  • Toots Fleury: bark design plaque
  • Betsy McDonald: painted loon slate
  • Edna Peters: two designs by Beryl Sanborn
  • Beryl Sanborn: an iris wall hanging

The ASC wishes to express its gratitude to the many people who assisted us with financial donations and volunteering their time, as well as the members who baked such a large array of delicious treats for sale at this event. Thank you also to Jane Slayton, Gail Parenteau, and Kathy Fogg of AE/MS, without whose help the Arts and Crafts Show could not have happened.

Coming Up

ASC’s annual Spring Luncheon on Wednesday, June 8, at 74 Main in New London will include the election of the 2016-2017 Executive Board, the passage of the budget for fiscal year 2016-2017, business reports, and Fourth of July Slices for Scholarships information with sign-ups for bakers. The members are looking forward to the delicious meals which have been provided to ASC for our luncheons for many years.

The June luncheon is the last meeting for fiscal year 2015-2016; meetings resume in September for the new fiscal year. No meetings are held in July and August, as we all need time for R&R.

So, if you are a woman who has a special talent, and even if you don’t but would like to be a member of a great service organization with friendly ladies and lots of fun, come join us on Wednesday, September 14, at 10 AM in the Highland Lake Grange Hall in East Andover. Dues are only $10 per year – a real bargain!

If you are unable to attend meetings, you can also be a member who bakes for the bake sales or who volunteers two hours per week at the ASC Thrift Shop. There are many ways to be a member, including as a dues-paying, non-active donor.

For more information, contact Mary Ofenloch at MaryO.ASClub@nulllive.com. New members are always welcome, and needed, to make our great service club even better.
