US Senate, Democrat, Maggie Hassan

Opinion - Op Ed - HassanI am running for Senate because I want to ensure that all of our people are included in our shared success, that we have a thriving middle class, and that parents can once again feel confident that the next generation will have a brighter future than the last.

Here in New Hampshire, we’ve made progress by working together – Democrats, Republicans, and independents – to solve problems and get things done for hard-working Granite Staters. We passed two fiscally responsible, bipartisan balanced budgets without an income or sales tax, froze tuition at state universities for the first time in 25 years and lowered it at community colleges, passed and reauthorized our bipartisan Medicaid Expansion plan that is providing coverage to nearly 50,000 Granite Staters, and expanded the R&D tax credit.

It is long past time for Washington to take the same approach. I will always fight for New Hampshire’s priorities, and I’ll work to bring people together to build an innovative economic future where everyone has the opportunity to get ahead and stay ahead.

My first priority as a US Senator will be securing emergency funding to fight the heroin and opioid epidemic. I will also focus on fostering innovation, supporting job-creating businesses, and expanding opportunity for hard-working Granite Staters, including working to make higher education more affordable, cutting taxes for the middle class, eliminating red tape for entrepreneurs, and promoting clean energy. And I will work to keep our state and our country safe and secure.
