Kearsarge Chorale Welcomes Donald Cox as Artistic Director

Members and friends of Kearsarge Chorale held a reception on August 15 to welcome Donald R. Cox, DMA as the Chorale’s new Artistic Director. Dr. Cox will begin leading the Chorale’s fall season at the first rehearsal on Monday, September 12. The season will culminate in a concert titled “Music Makers” to be held at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, 724 Main Street, New London, for two performances: Saturday, November 19 at 7 PM and Sunday, November 20 at 3 PM.

Dr. Cox brings a broad range of experience in choral conducting, music education, vocal performance, and arts administration to the Artistic Director position. After earning his Bachelor of Music degree from Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Cox was awarded the Master of Music Degree from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. He then received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, after which he departed in his new car for New London, where he would be music professor at Colby-Sawyer College for the next 18 years.

Additionally, he was the full-time organist and choirmaster at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in New London from 1993 to 1995. Dr. Cox was on the faculty of St. Anselm College from 1995 to 2010 and served as Executive Director of the Carolina Philharmonic in Pinehurst, North Carolina, from 2010 to 2011.

Most recently, Dr. Cox retired from the faculty of Southern New Hampshire University in 2015.

The Chorale is delighted to welcome Dr. Cox back to the New London community, and all look forward to creating exciting music under his direction. Andover resident Nancy Tripp and business owner Linda Barnes are members of the Chorale.
