Discussing New Hampshire and the creating of national parks

Press release

The Andover Historical Society will welcome Marcia Schmidt Blaine to the Highland Lake Grange Hall in East Andover where she will present “Saving the Mountains: New Hampshire and the Creation of the National Parks.” The presentation will take place on Wednesday, October 19, at 7 PM.

New Hampshire’s White Mountains played a leading role in events leading to the Weeks Act, the law which created the eastern national forests. Marcia explores the relationship between our mountains and the economic, environmental, and aesthetic questions posed by the individuals involved in the creation of the National Forest.

Marcia Schmidt Blaine is a Professor of History at Plymouth State University and Executive Director (interim) at the Museum of the White Mountains at Plymouth State University.

The evening will end with light refreshments. For more information, contact Rita Norander at 934-5397. The event is sponsored by the Andover Historical Society with a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council.
