Press release
Proctor Academy Boys’ Varsity Hockey raised $6,561.11 to support the American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer initiative, which helps fund research and patient programs and services in New Hampshire.

Proctor Academy Boys’ Varsity Hockey teamed up with the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer initiative, hosting a series of on-campus awareness programs, fundraising activities, and sponsored sporting events, including a “Chuck-a-Puck” charity game against Kents Hill School on February 11.

The team raised just over $6,500 to help fund research and patient programs that save lives and end suffering for those in New Hampshire impacted by cancer. The top team fundraising individuals were Myles Abbate ($1,120), Cole Joslin ($980.00), and Aidan Torres ($856.11).

Matt Slick, Proctor’s captain, said, “We have a great team that always sticks together on and off the ice. It’s what makes us successful in all endeavor’s we take on. We had a goal in mind, pushed hard to achieve it, and in the end, well exceeded it.” He added, “We want to thank all who supported us for this great cause.”

“Coaches vs. Cancer is a great way to get athletes involved against the fight to cure cancer,” said Hornets Head Coach Mike Walsh. “It brought our team together around a central cause off the ice, and taught our players valuable life lessons about giving back to the community and this great cause. I couldn’t be prouder of the team’s efforts on campus, and through donations, to make this such a successful event for Proctor.”

“The Proctor hockey team has taken action to help advance the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society,” said Brian Casalinova, American Cancer Society community manager of Special Events. “Initiatives such as Coaches vs. Cancer are creating awareness so people understand the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, and raising funds for research into cancer’s causes and cures, so we may someday live in a cancer-free world.”

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
