Press Release

At its regular club meeting the first Wednesday of the month, the Elkins Fish and Game Club awarded five camperships to children for summer programs at Barry Conservation Camp located at the Berlin Fish Hatchery.  Attending the Shooting Sports session will be: Tyler Kelly, Wyatt Dufresne, Paige Hoegler and Matthew Churchwell. Attending the Hunter Education session will be Jeremiah Mock.
The club has been sending children to camp since 1993, and these five campers bring the total sent to 132 boys and girls.  Barry Conservation Camp is operated by the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Program in cooperation with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.  Camperships are for weeklong programs which focus on fishing, shooting sports and hunter education. “These areas of interest fit the club’s mission and we are delighted each year to make this significant contribution to the area’s youth, to date nearly $42,000 in camperships and well over $5,000 in sponsorship of the camp’s Coyote Cabin,” said Mike Gelcius, club president.
On June 30th, the club will hold its sixth annual Lake-a-thon on Pleasant Lake where funds are raised to help with the camperships and a Cardboard Boat Regatta is held, among other family friendly activities.  Visit the club’s website at elkinsfishandgame.net for more information on how you can get involved or just enjoy this year’s Lake-a-thon.
