Wilmot Farmers Market Hosts Cooking Demo

Saturday 8/17

Press Release

On Saturday August 17, from 9 AM to noon, the Wilmot Farmers Market will host a cooking demonstration featuring one of summer’s favorite foods…fresh picked corn. The demonstration is made possible in part with grant funds provided by the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets and Foods, and is aimed at helping customers to be comfortable cooking local foods, and to learn how to utilize the season’s freshest to its utmost.  By taking items from a variety of farms, the board hopes to allow customers to learn about the market’s foods in general, and about the farms that grow them. In an effort to encourage total family participation, the event is presented by the Rob Whitman family of Andover.

While items may change based on availability, the menu will feature corn on the cob from Cutting Farm, presented in several ways, including what to do IF there is an ear or two left over after a meal. Vegetables from the produce farmers, Good Enough Farm, Featherstone Farm, and Windswept Farm, along with goat milk products from Offabit farm, will also be used.  Corn fritters will use one of a farmers markets best buys, a farm fresh egg. Wilmot Market egg vendors are Love and Lemons, Ewe and I Farm, Offabit Farm, Good Enough Farm, and Huntoon Farm. Herbs will be provided by Cardigan Mt. Soapworks and Dragonfly West Designs. And last, but not least, bread will be provided by Angie’s Bakery. Shop the market and enjoy the tastes of summer.

Cooking will be done at the education tent, where samples of summer will be available for all.  While they prepare the food, they are willing to share their experiences with cooking local foods, as well as the benefits to the consumer of a superior product of nutrient dense goodness.

The Wilmot Farmers Market is located at the town green, next to the town offices, right near the intersection of Route 11 and Kearsarge Valley Road in Wilmot Flat.  The market runs every Saturday from 9 AM to noon , rain or shine, through September 28. Vendors offer a variety of locally grown and handmade items.
