History Mystery Winner Identifies Unknown Object

The winner of the Andover Historical Society’s History Mystery in the October Beacon was Andover’s Jeff Sweet, who correctly called it a sap yoke. Second and third places in the contest went to Frank Baker III of Andover, and Don Phelps, address not provided.
Shown here is Andover Historical Society president Gail Richards demonstrating how the yoke was used to collect maple sap during the sugaring season (but using filled metal sap buckets rather than empty plastic flower pots). Photo: Larry Chase
