Learn How to Help Save Endangered Bees

Zoom presentation will discuss causes and solutions

By Susan Chase

Kim Pease, owner of Tucker Mountain Farm and Apiary in East Andover, will give a virtual presentation on “Our Endangered Honey Bees and What You Can Do to Help Them” on Tuesday, May 11, at 7 PM via Zoom, sponsored by the Andover Community Hub.

As readers may have heard, honey bees and other native bees are in trouble. Sharp declines in bee numbers across the country began to be apparent around 2003 and have continued to get worse. This is causing concern for beekeepers, as well as for gardeners and farmers who rely on bees of all kinds as the primary pollinators of the plants in our food system.

Scientists continue to try to sort out the causes, but since pollinators are so essential, their decline is a worrisome development.

Kim will discuss what is understood about possible causes and what steps anyone with a yard can take to help the situation, as well as what actions to avoid that are harmful to bees.  Those interested in joining the discussion should contact TheAndoverHub@nullgmail.com and request the Zoom link.
