Students at AE/MS collected $1,587.70 in a three-week Pennies for Patients program for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma; and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

The AE/MS Student Council spearheaded a Pennies for Patients drive that raised over $1,500 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The AE/MS Student Council coordinated this community service project. They encouraged their peers to donate spare change by hanging posters, making daily announcements, and organizing spirit days that would allow students to wear a hat in school for $1, or use their iPod at lunch for $2.

As a reward for fundraisers’ efforts, LLS offers a pizza party to the class that raises the most money and a $75 gift certificate to any school that raises more than $1,500. The students at AE/MS chose to donate the cost of the pizza party and gift certificate back to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The following classrooms raised between $100 and $199 and will receive a Bronze pennant for their classroom: Kindergarten, Mrs. Bent’s first grade , Ms. Hildebrand and Mr. Jensen’s second grades, Mrs. Peters and Mr. Hubbard’s third grades, Mrs. LaRoche’s fourth grade, and Mrs. Kidane’s fifth grade.

Mr. Murphys sixth grade class raised $253.95 and will receive a Silver Pennant.

Congratulations to all – Every Penny Counts!
