Andover’s Katelyn Barton Helps Wheaton College to Softball Wins

A double, two RBI, and two runs scored

Press release

Senior shortstop Katelyn Barton of Andover has been making a lot of noise as a member of the Wheaton College softball team, the Lyons. She was a combined 5-8 with five runs batted in to lead the team to a sweep over visiting Smith College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference doubleheader on April 16. She tripled and scored a run as well.

On April 8, the Lyons split a doubleheader with Babson College, dropping the first game, 12-2, before winning the nightcap, 9-6. Katelyn was 2-4 with a double, two RBI, and a pair of runs scored.

Wheaton scored the first three runs of the game in the home half of the first, helped by a two-run double from Katelyn.

The Lyons entered the bottom of the fifth trailing 6-5 when Barton beat out an infield single to shortstop; the next batter singled up the middle to put runners on first and second with no outs. The next pitch was crushed over the center field fence, and Wheaton took an 8-6 lead.
