Fire Department Barbecue Offers Homemade Food and Company

Also looking for volunteers; training offered

By Jake Otis

The Andover Fire Department’s annual chicken barbecue is right around the corner! This is our favorite time of the year as we get to have a large amount of our community members all in one place. We all join together for a night of great food and company. If you love BBQ chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, sweet corn on the cob, rolls, and more desserts than the bakery section at Hannaford, then stopping by the East Andover Fire Station on July 29 from 5 – 7 PM would be a great idea! Did I mention that 98% of the food I listed above is homemade? We will also be drawing the winning ticket for our kayak raffle at 7 PM at the chicken barbeque. See a member of fire, EMS, or auxiliary to get your tickets!

Volunteerism is something that, nowadays, just isn’t as easy to find as it used to be. Along with many other departments in the state, we have lower roster numbers than usual. Whether it be due to time, commitment, or just lack of able bodies, we don’t have the number of members that we used to, and that we need. There is no better feeling than being able to help someone on their worst day.

The department sends all new and current members to trainings that are offered all over the state, including firefighter 1 and Emergency Medical Technician training. Feel free to stop by the Main Street fire station, on the first Monday of each month, to talk to the crew. and see what it’s all about. We would be more than happy to answer any questions and show you around the station. If you don’t feel like it would be right for you, spread the word to family and friends. Help us to help you!

As always, be safe and be kind!
