Louise Andrus’s View from Concord — August

By Louise Andrus, State Representative

Happy September. Thank you to every volunteer and vendor that made BeaconFest a success.  It was a great day! I know each of you worked very hard to make it possible. The Merrimack County Republican Committee had a booth. I met and spoke with some great people that stopped at the booth.

Thank you to all volunteers that made possible the Salisbury Old Home Day. The weather was beautiful. I was in the parade with other Merrimack County Republican Committee members.  We had a booth and the day was very successful.

For the House Sessions which ended on June 30, I attended 100 percent of House Sessions and voted 100 percent of the time on Roll Call votes. For those that might be interested, the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance rates all Legislators on house bills. The rating is mainly based, but not all of it, on roll call votes. I received 85.4 percent which was a B+.

On the website nhliberty.org you will find the Liberty ratings and all information that pertains to the bills, etc., utilized. It is very interesting.

There is the New Hampshire House Republican Alliance (NH HRA), of which I am a member.  The NHRA is a group of House members that make sure that bills going through the Legislature are fiscally responsible, adhere to the NH and US Constitutions, and are consistent with the Republican platform.

The HRA has a scorecard in which figures are compiled and ratings are given. All Legislators are rated. My scorecard was reported as 98.6 percent out of 100 percent.  The website for the NH HRA and scorecard: nhhra.org/hra/. There is much useful information on this website.

Have you read the NH Constitution? Have you read the US Constitution? What do these Constitutions mean to you? What is the purpose of these two Constitutions? Our Constitutions are a part of our country and who we are.

One aspect of a constitution creates a government consisting of three branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, and has a set of checks and balances among the three branches.  Another aspect is that our Constitutions protect our individual liberties.

I have been taking some Constitution classes, and the classes have clarified the Constitution.  Our Constitutions clearly state what the “governments” can and cannot do. In our Constitution it grants us inalienable rights which means the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These inalienable rights are very valuable.

The next House Sessions will be on January 3 and 4, 2024. I hope each of you has a great month of September. If I can be of help in any way please let me know:
