Recreation Committee Minutes, July 10, 2013

Condensed from approved minutes

Present: Members Justin Carey, Nicole Donovan, Tom Frantz, Ellie George, Howard George, Tim Norris, and Brian Reynolds. Alan Hanscom checked in by phone.

Swimming: Despite a lot of effort by Ellie George and Sarah Lester, no swimming instructor could be found. There was a discussion about trying to come up with an instructor for August.

Fourth of July Fundraising: Closest to the Pin on Carr Field was successful thanks to the efforts of the Frost family and Howard George. Justin Carey again provided the platform. Winners were Dennis Phelps, 1st; Richard Brewster, 2nd; and Richard Brewster, 3rd. The event raised $210 for the Andover Recreation Committee.

Hot dog and drink sales for the fireworks on Carr Field: Kurt Weber and family sold all the hot dogs. Great work! Water sold a lot better than soda. This venue, too, raised $210.

Funds raised will go to Treasurer Alan Hanscom, where 20% of the total will be disbursed to the Andover Fourth of July Committee.

Rec Building: Discussion, no resolution yet.

Soccer: Nicole Donovan reports that 37 players are registered. She has turned $1,000 in to the Town. She needs 24 medium shirts. As far as the paint is concerned, we need three more cases of Royal Blue and one more case of white to make it through the season. It was felt that the lines definitely need to be down by August 18, and August 11 would probably be better.

Referee Help: Three Andover teens are interested in the Referee Clinic offered at Trinity Christian School, a great development. It was agreed to reimburse these kids for the Clinic. Good refereeing is a key to a positive experience for all our kids. High-school age kids are paid $10 a game. High-school graduates are paid $20 a game.

Coaches: Claudio Marcus will be coaching the co-ed fifth and sixth grade team. Ty Davis and Robert Kozial will coach the third and fourth grade boys. Brian Kellogg will coach the third and fourth grade girls. There are no coaches yet for the first and second grade group, which will be coed and have about 20 kids.

All coaches must see Marj Roy about background checks.

The league will be doing background checks on all Directors.
