Dear AEMS Family,

Hope you enjoyed your four day weekend! The weather was beautiful and both the Patriots and Red Sox provided exciting entertainment. I am glad it wasn’t a school night!

NECAP state testing will end for most 3rd-8th grade students tomorrow. There will still be some make-up testing for any students who missed a session.

Math Night is Thursday, October 24th starting at 6:30. Return to school with your child for math games and activities and opportunities to win prizes. Math Stations will be run by math jungle animals. The theme is “We are Wild about Math.” Feel free to come to Math Night dressed as your favorite wild animal.

The Book Fair will have extended hours through Math Night. See the attachment for all the Book Fair details.

Math Night is also an opportunity to sign up for the town basketball program for 3rd-6th grade students and the town ski program for 1st-8th grade students. There will be representatives in the lobby to provide information. Sign your 3rd – 6th grader up for the town basketball program. Emily Furtkamp can be contacted for information at 735-4299 or efurtkamp@nullyahoo.com. A recreation b-ball registration form is attached to this parent letter and can also be found on our school website.

Our drama club will be hosting a snack table at Math Night. Come prepared to buy delicious treats.

The Andover Food Pantry is in need of non-perishable food items. Supplies are very low. We have a collection box at school where students can leave food items at any time and we will deliver it across the parking lot. Also, at Math Night we encourage everyone to bring a food item (or two, three, or four) and we will bring it to the Andover Food Pantry. For every item that is brought in you will get a raffle ticket and increase your chances of winning math prizes.

If your child was absent on School Picture Day or if you need to have picture redone you have the opportunity on November 1st when the photography company returns to AEMS. Read directions on picture packet for retakes.

Progress Reports went home with students on Tuesday. If you do not receive a progress report please contact the school office. Parent / Teacher conference information will be sent home soon.

The 7th and 8th grade soccer season has come to an end. More students will be on the bus in the afternoon which may change drop-off times a bit. Please be aware.

If your child is late for school in the morning please come into the building and sign him/her in. Students arriving late need to slip into classrooms as quickly and quietly as possible so as to not disturb the academic routine in progress. A staff member will accompany K-3 students to their classrooms if they are late.

It’s not too soon for grandparents to start thinking about Thanksgiving. Grandparent Thanksgiving will be held during the day at AEMS on Thursday, November 21st. Plan on a wonderful meal with lots of enthusiastic children.

From time to time our school has last minute opportunities obtain fresh, high quality fruits and vegetables. We often have to act fast and cannot plan for them ahead. Please understand we may sometimes make a last minute menu change to use the fresh produce.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks!

Jane Slayton
