Do You Have a Not-Too-Old Computer to Donate?

Beacon needs computers that can run Windows 8.1

By Charlie Darling, Beacon staff

Don’t read this article before December 26! No peeking!

Was Santa good to you this year? Do you have a computer that’s now redundant and taking up space?

If it’s only about three or four years old, the Beacon would love to have it! Microsoft has decreed that we have to upgrade to Windows 8.1 this year, and the computers that people donated to us years ago just don’t have what it takes to run the latest operating system. So we’re going to have to replace at least two computers, maybe three, this year.

Flat-Screen Monitors

And while we’re on the subject, we could also use two or three donated flat-screen monitors – the bigger the better. The nature of our production work requires we keep at least three or four different applications running at once on each computer, and ever since I saw the dual-monitor set-ups they use in the Town Office now, I’ve had a serious case of “dual-monitor envy.” Our jobs at the Beacon would flow much more smoothly and efficiently if we could see more open applications at a time!

If you have some hardware you’d like to donate, or just wonder if what you have might be something we could use, please give me a call (after New Year’s Day) at 735-6099. Thanks!
