Dear AEMS Family,

Keep school breakfast in mind this winter. Breakfast is available to all students in the morning. The breakfast menu is varied and delicious! Students have enjoyed warm, healthy muffins, breakfast burritos, nut butter and banana wraps, smoothies, bagels, etc. There is time in the schedule for all students to grab breakfast and bring it to the classroom with them.

Free and reduced school lunch applications can be completed at any time during the school year. Those with seasonal jobs who have a decrease in income in the winter should definitely consider applying or reapplying. Information shared is confidential. Please contact me and I can send home a form.

Congratulations to Aiden Cox, our AEMS Rock-Paper-Scissors champion, who represented our school on Saturday at the NH Statewide RPS Championship. Aiden made it past the first round winning 7 of 8 matches. The first round was a round robin format which reduced the 30+ competitors down to 8. In the second round, Aiden won the first match but was defeated by the eventual 3rd place winner. I am already looking forward to the 2014 RPS tournaments.

Now that we have used the emergency notification system several times this year please let me know if there is anything to be adjusted to make it work better for you. For most families we are connecting through home phone, cell phones, and email. If you have additions or changes, please email me at jslayton@nullaemseagles.org and changes will be made over vacation.

We are reminding students to clean out lockers and desks and bring everything home for vacation. Lost and Found is already filled with mittens, hats, boots, vests, and jackets. If you are in the building please take a look through the Lost and Found located beside the middle school bathrooms.

Skating at the Proctor Academy rink on Friday afternoons is an option for those who do not participate in the town ski program. School staff members and volunteers walk over and back to the rink with 1st – 8th grade students. Kindergarten students are welcome to skate but must have a parent with them at all times. This week we will finish fitting skates for those students who need them. Students are welcome to keep the skates with them so that they can use them over vacation and on weekends too. We have a pretty impressive assortment of skates. Thanks for the donations.

Please make sure your child is in school on time. Students arrive at school beginning at 7:30. Students go to lockers and classrooms at 7:40 and it is expected that all students are in their classrooms by 7:45. Gym walking begins at 7:30 and all are welcome. It’s a great way to start the day!

Looking ahead to January I want to mention that AEMS has a regular school day on Monday, January 21st. We do not have the day off from school for Civil Rights Day but do have related lessons that day. It is a very special day for student learning.

The first day of school in 2014 is Monday, January 6th.

Have a wonderful vacation!

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for 2014!
