Meet the Artists at First Friday Events

February 7 at New London locations

Press release

Arts - Center for the Arts - February First Friday - 0059The community is invited to the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts (CFA) “First Fridays” program on Friday, February 7, from 5 to 7 PM. Gallery openings and artists’ receptions are taking place at several New London locations. All Center for the Arts First Friday events are free and open to the public.

Join us for great art, light refreshments, and a chance to meet the artists at the three CFA Micro Galleries. All are located on Main Street in New London. Many First Friday attendees enhance their evening with a walking tour to each gallery! Each Center for the Arts Micro Gallery features the art of regional artists working in a variety of media.

The Micro Gallery at Zero Celsius Wealth, 228 Main Street, will host the Fine Art of John Sirois. John has been painting for 20 years. He prefers to paint on location, because he is better able to capture the color, light, and the energy of a landscape. John studied for many years with Sid Willis as well as Don Stone, Lois Griffel, and Charles Sovek. His work has been shown at the Salmagundi Club in New York, as well as the America Artists Professional League, and at the Currier Museum in Manchester.

Country Houses Real Estate, 370 Main Street, will host the photography of Maureen Rosen. Maureen is a self- taught photographer who combines her computer expertise with her digital photography. Maureen’s computer becomes the “darkroom,” and the camera is the “paint brush.” She held her first photography show several years ago and since then has been featured at the Tatewell Gallery in New London.

Her photography appears on many area Web sites, and she has been the official photographer for the Adventures in Learning course catalog at Colby-Sawyer College since 2009. Maureen finds in photography a “one-with-nature” experience, and she is never happier than when capturing that one perfect picture that helps define the “place” we all share.

The New London Inn, 140 Main Street, will host the work of Susan Parmenter. Susan begins by saying, “Painting and drawing take me on a journey of expression which I cannot achieve with words.” She likes to work in oils or pastels in a realistic or sometimes impressionist style. “I prefer painting and creativity without rules.” Susan’s landscapes often begin with small studies: indoors or outdoors, imagined or real. These studies develop into larger works done in the studio.

Mostly she paints landscapes and portraits. “I seek balance between painting and drawing, line and brush. I like to push the comfort zone. My sketch book goes with me wherever I go. To quote Pablo Picasso, ‘I begin with an idea, and then it becomes something else.’ So true!”
