Dear AEMS Family,

Second grade students are keeping their fingers crossed that their Healthy Heart Breakfast will go off without a hitch tomorrow. The students have put together a creative and nutritious menu and plan to wait tables, make change, and serve other students and staff members.

The AEMS Annual Parent Breakfast is the Thursday before vacation, February 20th. Breakfast is served from 6:45 until 8:00 and you can come at anytime. There will be French toast sticks, sausage, breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit salad, bananas, yogurt, coffee, juice, and milk. Please come and have breakfast with your child and let the AEMS staff serve you.

Our 4th – 7th grade students will participate in the King Arthur Flour Life Skills Bread Baking Program. Students will receive baking instruction with a connection to math and science. After the assembly on March 6th the students will receive flour, a recipe booklet, yeast, and a dough scraper. Students will then bake two loaves of bread over the weekend. One loaf stays at home to be enjoyed by the family and the second loaf is returned to school to be donated to the Bread and Roses Soup Kitchen and the Andover Food Pantry. We participated in this program several years ago and had a very rewarding and successful experience.

Please have your child return all library books before vacation. We are upgrading our electronic collection system in the library over vacation and need all books on site to make the process run most efficiently.

We are helping MVHS senior and AEMS former student Brooke Ellis with her senior project. She has asked AEMS students and staff members to help her collect food for the Andover Food Pantry and we are more than happy to help. Brooke states “In order to make my senior project a success, I am asking for your help. My project is to explore the problem of food insecurity in the United States, and because it is unrealistic for me to solve this problem in our country, I decided that I would use this opportunity to do what I can to help solve this problem in our town. For two weeks in February and the week following vacation, donations of non-perishable food items will be collected in classrooms. Please consider donating what you can to help keep food available to those in need in our community.”

There has been a change in bus drivers. Please know that Christine Mitchell will continue to drive Bus #1, Nancy Teach will now drive Bus #2, Ed Becker will continue to drive Bus# 3 and Marion Devir will now drive Bus #6.

Our middle school students have had a terrific basketball season which is now coming to an end. The Basketball Banquet to celebrate the season is Tuesday, February 18th.

Our Kindness Club will not be meeting on Monday, February 17th. Kindness Club  meetings will resume after vacation.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call or stop in.

Sincerely,

Jane Slayton
