February was filled with cold days and warm hearts at EAVP. The extreme cold was the perfect setting for our Arctic and Olympic themes in the classroom. The children explored the arctic by creating an igloo out of our loft, painting with ice, experimenting with blubber, and learning about Arctic animals. The weather kept us inside many days but we were able to bring the outside in by putting snow in our sensory table and allowing time for gross motor play.

We got caught up in the Olympic spirit at the start of the games. Many students have older siblings at AE/MS and had heard about our own Andover Olympians. We all imagined what we would like to participate in during the Olympic Games and worked at our literacy center to write and draw pictures in our journals as well as creating a class book titled If I Were in the Olympics. One of our favorite activities was participating in Olympic training each morning; stretching and doing jumping jacks in morning meeting, getting our bodies and minds ready to perform like Olympians.

We were also fortunate enough to be visited by the Moose Man, Rick Libbey. During his visit, we explored his photography, listened to his stories, and learned about moose and other wild animals that roam through our backyards in Andover. Thanks for spending some time with us, Moose Man!

On Thursday, March 20, we are holding a fundraiser at Muse Paint Bar in Manchester. This event is a chance for adults to have an evening out and create a work of art. The event runs from 6:30 to 9 PM and costs $45 per participant. EAVP will receive a portion of the evening’s proceeds. If you are interested in attending this event, please visit MusePaintBar.com or contact EAVP.

EAVP is very proud of all the improvements we’ve been able to make to our school environment this year. We’ve been fortunate to be able to have our floors refinished, new steps for our porch built, add a loft to our classroom, and now introduce a new cubby system for student’s jackets, backpacks, and sleep stuff.

Coming soon will be improvements and renovations to our entryway, where we hope to create a more functional and inviting environment. This spring and summer our playground will also be undergoing renovations!

Speaking of summer, we’re already thinking about Summer Camp! We’ve narrowed down our theme weeks and hope that this year we will be able to add more special trips to our summer camp program. Our camp is open to ages 3 to 12 and offers a variety of activities including daily water play, arts and crafts, and themed activities. If you would like more information about camp or enrolling for the next school year, please call EAVP at 735-5105 for more details.
