Humanist & Agnostic Discussion Group Thursday, November 17 1:30PM
At our September meeting we discussed the definition and implications of love. We agreed that love cannot be commanded. One cannot be told to “love your neighbor”, although one can certainly be told to “be nice to your neighbor.” We also talked about Scott Peck’s book The Road Less Traveled and his distinction between falling in love and being in love. We agreed that there is a third part to that, that of falling out of love. During our October meeting we plan to talk about “religion and politics”, in preparation for the national election. By the time you read this, we would have already have had a heated discussion on the place of religion in politics and would probably all be in great need of more love. Come join the survivors for the November meeting. This is a walk-in program.
Movie & Pizza Night Friday, November 18 5 PM
The Way
The Way is a powerful and inspirational story about family, friends and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an American doctor who comes to St. Jean Pied de Port, France to collect the remains of his adult son (played by Emilio Estevez), killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while walking the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James. Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage to honor his son’s desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn’t plan on is the profound impact the journey will have on him. Please call COA at 526-6368 to sign up.
