A free workshop for parents and teachers is being offered by the Kearsarge Elementary School – Bradford on managing anxiety and depression in children. The speaker will be Lynn Lyons, LICSW, co-author of Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, February 15 from 7 to 8: 30 PM at the Kearsarge Regional High School Auditorium in N. Sutton.
A flyer for the workshop states: “Untreated anxiety in a child is one of hte top predictors of depression in oung adults. For those that work with anxious families, this comea s no surprise. In this presentation, Lynn focuses on how to interrupt the most common axiety and depresion enhancing patterns–including reassurance, accommodation, avoidance, and three cognitive habits–and adopt instead a process-based “umbrella apporoach” that changes both the child and adults’ engrained patterns of thinking and behaving.”
Lyons is a Concord, NH psychotherapist who specializes in the treatment of anxious childrena nd their parents. She is the co-author with Reid Wilson of Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents: 7 Ways to Stop the Worry Cycle and Raise Couragious and Independant Children and the companion book Playing with Anxiety: Casey’s Guide for Teens and Kids. She presents internationally to mental health and meical providers, educators, school nurses, and parents.
