Hailing from Cabot, Vermont, and with hundreds of concerts across North America and Europe on their resume, Dana and Susan Robinson, billed as an “Americana-roots and folk duo,” will headline the coming monthly Andover Community Coffeehouse on Friday, Feb. 15.
The performance will begin at 7:00 PM in the Highland Lake Grange Hall, 7 Chase Hill Road in East Andover. Admission is free, although donations — which are shared with the performers and the Andover Community Church, owner of the Grange Hall — are gratefully accepted.
The Robinsons’ work has been described as a “unique blend of original songwriting and traditional Appalachian music [that brings] to their performances a deep understanding of America’s musical heritage, and how it relates to our contemporary lives.” It is said to “combine vivid songwriting and storytelling, with fiddle tunes, banjo grooves, elegant melodies, and rich harmony singing.” Learn more at at www.robinsongs.com.
Also appearing onstage will be up to a dozen open-microphone performers whose contributions in previous months have ranged from the spoken word to show-business, jazz, folk, bluegrass, and country-and-western tunes.
Sponsor for the February event is the Andover Energy Group, an organization of local volunteers currently offering local residents special incentives to weatherize their homes. For more information, go to vitalcommunities.org/Weatherize. Sponsor support helps to underwrite coffeehouse expenses.
Coming up: On Friday, March 15, the headliner will be singer-songwriter Rob Lutes, winner of the 2018 Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Singer of the Year (or Chanteur contemporain de l’année) for his album, “Walk in the Dark.” Learn more at roblutes.com.
Doors to the Grange Hall open at 6:00 PM for food purchases offered by the Andover Community Church and for open-mic sign-ins on a first-come, first-serve basis.
