Andover — Joan Marie (Hinchliffe) Biron passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2024, at the age of 77. Before moving to Andover, she and her husband Rick were residents of Wilmot (36 years) where she operated her businesses as a cosmetologist and a knitter of custom hats.
She was born on January 19, 1947, in Stoughton, Massachusetts, to John J. Hinchliffe and Elizabeth (Evans) Hinchliffe. Joan graduated from Pembroke Academy in 1965; following graduation she lived in England for a year with her aunt. Upon returning to the United States, she enrolled in cosmetology school, graduating in March of 1969, and going on to begin her passion as a cosmetologist for the next 50 years.
On August 21, 1971, she married Richard G. Biron, her high school classmate. They made their home in Allenstown, New Hampshire, with Joan purchasing a beauty salon in Suncook in 1971 and then establishing her home-based salon in Wilmot. In 1976 there arrived the first of their children, Sarah, and in 1980 Sabrina arrived, making their family unit complete. Joan was a guiding light to her daughters, making them the strong and caring women they are today.
As a business woman, she was an accomplished and always accommodating stylist to her clients. In addition to her busy cosmetology business and raising two daughters with Rick, Joan also custom machine-knitted hats, creating one-of-a-kind products that matched her clients’ coats and passions.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, John J. Hinchliffe and Elizabeth Hinchliffe, of Wilmot, and her brother, Glenn Hinchliffe of California. Surviving members of her family include husband Richard and daughters Sarah (Sean) of Wilmot and Sabrina (Brendan) of Claremont, sister Jacqueline of Canterbury, and brother Mark of Colorado, along with loved nieces and nephews and extended family members.
A funeral mass was held on July 19 at Immaculate Conception Church, in Andover. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Lake Sunapee Visiting Nurses, in New London, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to a charity of your choice.
