Candidates – Budget Committee: Wood Sutton

Town News - Town Meeting - Candidate-Budget-SuttonThere is only one reason to run for Budget Committee or volunteer for any other town groups. That is because you feel an obligation to Andover and believe you can be of help. I have had a home in Andover for 23 years and have that obligation.

Until retirement, my profession was that of a management consultant. My clients ranged from planes and motorcycles to frozen peas and aspirin. No, I did not arrive like a knight in shining armor with all the answers. Sure, we did have answers, but the focus was to bring out the talent that already existed within the client organization. We worked with individuals and teams from the CEO to factory workers. The thrust of the work was to develop a climate of continuous improvement that would last well after we left.

In regard to the Budget Committee, I have no “agenda.” Everyone in town works hard to keep taxes down. My job would be to help ensure that every dollar we spend adds value to the Town of Andover and to its families. If it does not add value, we should not be doing it. If it does not add value but is a state/federal mandate, what is the least expensive course of action?

Let me be clear about one thing. I am not running against anyone. The Town is fortunate to have more volunteers than there are positions. Given the opportunity, I will bring value to the community.
