Recreation Committee Minutes, May 12, 2015

Condensed from approved minutes

Present: Ellie George, Howard George, Tom Frantz, Alan Hanscom, Jen Hauser, Heidi Murphy, Sue Norris, Tim Norris, Brian Reynolds

The Town Beach: Selectman asked if the Andover Recreation Committee was in charge of the Town beach at Highland Lake. It was moved and passed that the Recreation Committee definitely is not responsible for the bathhouse, beach, float, or environs. The Committee is responsible for finding and hiring a swimming instructor which has been done.

The Ball Field: Apparently the new arrangement for the field includes mowing only and does not include the several other elements of field maintenance. The rest remains to be worked out.

Programs

Baseball: Andover Fence will fix the batting cage. Howard George and Garry George will hook up the water.

Softball: There are no Andover softball teams this year. The Committee will look into re-establishing softball next year.

Tennis: The Committee would like to see tennis re-established as well, if an instructor can be found.

Swimming: Swimming instruction has been arranged for the first two weeks in July.

Soccer: Heidi Murphy intends to try to sign up kindergarten kids at their graduation in order to try to bolster soccer numbers, which are down.

Recreation Building: The completion of the Recreation Building at Blackwater Park seems at long last to be in sight.

Sue Norris is energetically overseeing the timing of the wiring, plumbing, and carpentry. Sue will be meeting with the electrician, Brian, to be sure that there is nothing he needs to do before the bathroom wall is moved 8” to accommodate wheelchair access. Sue has also offered to order anything that carpenter Greydon Colby needs in order to start when he gets back from vacation.

Alan Hanscom reiterated that:

  • Plumbing is budgeted not to exceed $3,500
  • Electrical is budgeted not to exceed $5,000
  • Total available to spend for everything is $10,000
