Life for Bradley Lake’s loon family was very peaceful in early August, with the adult loon pair raising their two chicks. But around the 10th, a cormorant (below) arrived — a species not seen at Bradley Lake for a decade — causing great concern and commotion (below) among the loons. In other loon news, the Highland Lake loon pair were unsuccessful again this year — their eggs never hatched. Donna Baker-Hartwell found nothing but shells; the weasel seen swimming from Stella’s Beach to the island may have feasted on the abandoned eggs. Photos: Rebecca and Jonathan Schwartz
