A one-alarm building fire was called in around 3 PM on Saturday, June 25, at Proctor Academy’s Thoreau House dormitory at 22 Lawrence Street. The heat and intensity of the fire quickly brought it to a second and finally to a third alarm. Mutual aid from the towns of Salisbury, Wilmot, Franklin, Hill, Webster, Danbury, Tilton-Northfield, Belmont, Bridgewater, Bristol, New London, Boscawen, Sutton, and Sanbornton helped the Andover Fire Department battle the fire and knock it down by early evening. At the time of the fire, no one was home; however, one family pet perished in the fire. The fire started in the barn at the rear of the building and quickly spread to the entire house. The dorm was a total loss, so the building was torn down by nightfall by Andrews Construction. We are very thankful for the mutual aid given to our town today! The help of the townspeople who took immediate action with their manpower and care was also much appreciated. “Thank you!” to Jake’s Market and Pizza Chef for their support in keeping our firemen hydrated and fed. Please keep Proctor Academy and the couple who lost their home in your thoughts and in your prayers. Caption and photo: Meghan Barton
