Mushroom ID Walk
Saturday, October 5, 3 to 4:30 PM
Join New Hampshire Mushroom Company Education Director Stephanie Doyle for a walk in search of wild mushrooms. Explore the Science Center property to search for mushrooms to identify and discuss.

Halloween Hoot ‘N Howl
Saturday, October 19, 6 to 8:30 PM
It’s time for the annual Halloween Hoot ‘N Howl! This popular event invites visitors on an eerily entertaining 40-minute guided tour around the grounds in the evening. Trail walks feature live skits with a seasonal theme and depart every 10 minutes from 6 to 7:30 PM. Visitors are encouraged to come in costume and to dress suitably for outdoor weather. After the tour, warm up with Halloween games and tasty treats! This event is for all ages and is held rain or shine and advance reservations are required.

Invasive Species Removal Work Day
Tuesday, October 22, 10:30 AM to Noon

Squam Lakes Natural Science Center invites the public to learn how to identify and remove invasive plant species. The program will begin with a brief introduction to an invasive species followed by going out onto Science Center grounds to learn and practice techniques for removing that species from an area. Participants will learn skills to apply to removing invasive species from their own property. Refreshments are provided to wrap up the session. Participants should wear long pants and sturdy shoes and bring work gloves, water, insect repellent, and sunscreen. Participants can participate for the full session or just part of it.
Cost: This program is free but advance registration is required.

ONGOING EVENTS
Up Close to Animals
Saturdays and Sundays at 12:00 and 2:00 PM through October 14
Meet live animals up close and learn about them from an experienced naturalist educator. These engaging talks at the amphitheater feature a variety of different animals, including birds, mammals, and reptiles. Visit nhnature.org for full animal schedule of other times.
Cost: Up Close to Animals presentations are included in regular trail admission.

River Otter Feeding
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11:30 AM through November 1
Squam Lakes Natural Science Center holds a special river otter feeding every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11:30 AM. See the two playful resident river otters enjoy an early lunch. Expert volunteers tell visitors about otter biology and ecology, while also serving up a tasty treat or two.
River otter feeding time is included in regular trail admission.

SQUAM LAKE CRUISES
Discover Squam Cruise
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM
Fridays through Mondays at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM

This unforgettable guided tour has something to delight everyone. Learn about the natural history of the lake, the wildlife that makes Squam so special, and the people who have enjoyed these lakes for over 5,000 years. Watch for Common Loons, Bald Eagles, and other wildlife. All Squam Lake Cruises are 90 minutes in length. Squam Lake Cruises are on canopied pontoon boats. Binoculars are available for wildlife viewing at no additional cost. Cruises depart on Route 113 across from the Science Center parking lots. Park in designated lots and walk to Lake Cruise Headquarters using pathway.
Cost: $27/adult; $25 senior (age 65+); $23 youth (ages up to 15); members receive a $4 per person discount

Cruise with a Naturalist
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 3:00 PM through Thursday, October 10
Uncover the rich natural history of Squam Lake with an experienced naturalist educator. Observe Loons and Bald Eagles and their nesting sites along with other wildlife. Learn how animals survive and adapt to their aquatic world. Gain an appreciation and deeper understanding of Squam Lake from mountain ranges to island stories to quiet spots during this memorable lake experience.


All Squam Lake Cruises are 90 minutes in length. Squam Lake Cruises are on canopied pontoon boats. Binoculars are available for wildlife viewing at no additional cost.
