May 16, White River Junction, Vt. – The news is full of stories about our region’s housing shortage and its impact on every aspect of community and individual health and well-being. One event, however, gives individual homeowners the expert knowledge and resources to help address that crisis and earn rental income by building “accessory dwelling units” or ADUs; converting single-family homes to duplexes; developing “cottage clusters” of small homes; and entering into formal “homeshare” arrangements.

Back by popular demand, the Home Creators Expo 2024 takes place Saturday, June 1, 10 AM – 3 PM, Hartford Area Career and Technology Center (HACTC), 1 Gifford Road, Hartford, Vermont.  The event is free, public and includes a free lunch prepared by Wicked Awesome Barbecue of White River Junction.  Registration is requested to help plan materials and events. Registration is at www.eventbrite.com/e/2024-home-creators-expo-tickets-881398295027.

Last spring’s Home Creators Expo focused on ADUs, including all aspects of permitting, building, and living in ADUs, offering attendees the chance to talk one-on-one with builders, financial experts, home manufacturers, and permitting professionals.

This year’s event includes those ADU resources and experts but also includes information on other ways of creating new homes, such as converting a single-family home to a duplex; developing a “cottage cluster” of tiny homes on a single lot; and the growing area of “homesharing,” in which homeowners can find vetted, compatible housemates and create formal arrangements that are secure, stable, and mutually beneficial.

Attendees can attend the following workshops and speak one-on-one with experts and vendors at tables throughout the expo. Workshop Schedule: 10:00 AM: ADU-Plus 101
This workshop is your road map to ADU and other small-scale development or home creation (such as single-family conversions, cottage clusters, or homesharing).

Join this session to discuss ADU+ concepts and raise your overall awareness of ADUs and other small-scale housing as a model and strategy. Experts on local and statewide permitting will be on hand to provide information on what to expect as you begin your journey as a home creator!
